Today is a good day

It's been a day of highs and lows so far, but it evens out on the good side.

Good news:

I'm ready to graduate!!!! My credits have gone to a level where I can go ahead and walk. Today, I registered for graduation, ordered my cap, gown and stole, my invitations and thank you cards. On Saturday, July 30, 2005, I will graduate with my Business degree. Summa cum laude with a 3.98 GPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bad news:

The graduation is going to take place where I know absolutely nobody. Seems that the dealine for the June graduation ceremony is Dallas was the first of April. However, I wasn't ready credit-wise to be eligible at that time. I wrote them to see if there was ANY way, and they said no, and that their next ceremony wouldn't be until 2006!!!! Sooo, I'm stuck having to graduate with my online class in Phoenix, AZ. I don't KNOW anyone in Phoenix. Nobody is going to travel to Phoenix to see me graduate. My mom won't get to see it because she'll have to stay here with the kids in order for my husband to go with me. We can't afford to take the kids with us. We hadn't planned on this trip and buying two plane tickets, hotel for two days and everything else is hardship enough. When I found out I wasn't going to be able to graduate here, where my friends and family could be there to support me, I just absolutely broke down. It put a damper on the joy of graduating. I really don't want to graduate in Phoenix, but I definately want to walk. I worked too damn hard for too long to not do that.

Congratulations on graduating. It's a shame they can't work something out for you. That's sad.

It's July 30, at 5:00 pm at the America West Arena.

Will you be there then? How cool would that be?

That is the day before Wes' b-day!! I'm sorry your ceremony won't be what you'd like it to be. I understand the need for friends to celebrate with you on your accomplishment.

Here is just a little thought: What if you staged your very own graduation ceremony in your backyard? You could set up folding chairs and a makeshift stage where people could toast you (or roast you, your preference) and then Hubby could make a speech and announce the best graduate of the year and you could walk across in cap and gown, get your "diploma", and have tumultous applause from your friends and family?Hubby and the kids would get a kick out making the ceremony, you could have cake and ice cream, and best of all the moment would be shared with people who love you, not strangers. Just a thought though.

What a GREAT idea! If I have my cap and gown by the time we have our crawfish boil at the end of next month, we can have a mock graduation with 40 of our friends around. That would be fantastic.
