We have gotten used to Matthew's immunity issues, and him having constant infections and always being sick. However, we were totally unprepared for what we are faced with now. A week ago, Michael started coughing in the middle of the night. By the next night (they were off school on Monday), he had croup. About 6 am Tuesday morning, he had stridor (couldn't catch a breath with a high-pitched keening sound). We went to the doctor and he got some steroids to keep his airways open. I ended up sleeping with him most of the nights to comfort him and watch over him. Needless to say, I quickly got the same upper respiratory infection and cough he started with. My mother, who helps us in the afternoons when I am working, caught it shortly thereafter. Scott was home through Tuesday, so he ended up with it in Tulsa. He came home late last night.
Today, Scott, Michael and I are sitting on the couches with fevers, coughing, sinus infections (just me and my mom, I think) and basically being miserable. Michael has lost several pounds because we can't get him to eat. Thankfully, he is still drinking well. I made him a monstor smoothy with milk, bananas and other things to try to get some calories in him. I've lost a few pounds myself, because I don't feel like eating. I try to make myself, but can't get much in.
Matthew doesn't have whatever virus this is! The supplemental immunization shots he got must have worked really well! I'm so glad he isn't sick, but he is so jealous of the attention Michael is getting and he is bored because there is nobody to play with him. I sure hope we get well soon!
