It begins

When I get back from vacation, I will have to begin in earnest the preparations for my job search. I'm going to put my all into finding a position within Sun again, but not limit myself there.

This has officially been the longest day of my life. I don't even remember whether the mail sitting on the counter is from today or yesterday. I had a 9 am call, got laid off at 10 am, had a small breakdown, my husband took the kids to my mom's, he went back to work, I danced like a maniac, I bleached my hair, I went and laid out by the pool with a friend, wandered around craft stores, went looking at fish in an exotic fish store (it's like going to the aquarium, only FREE!), came home and finally ate something, watched a little TV, then started going at saving the accomplishments of the past 12 years. Parts of my access at work are already shutting down, but I was able to save copies of my salary history, performance reviews up until this year, awards, kudos emails, personal templates I used for project tracking and set up a 'no longer in the office' away message for the two weeks my email will still be on.

My stomach burns. I took Tylenol PM, but I don't think it's doing much. I should have just gone with 2 Phenergan.

Reminder for self: Need to set up doctor's appointments and get all prescriptions refilled. Need to gather all Sun equipment, token card and badges to turn back in.

I love exotic fish stores. They're even better, in some ways, than public aquariums!

Are you getting any severance at all? And how long are they going to keep your insurance going - or is your insurance with Scott's new job?

On the bright side, when we're in Florida you won't have to think about work at all. You'll be FREE and won't have to worry about what projects await you when you get back.

What a bummer! Stupid Sun. You'll get another position somewhere else soon enough, I imagine. In the meantime, find a way to stop freaking out about it [that doesn't involved eating or drinking yourself to death!] and enjoy a little time off without feeling compelled to worry about work and deadlines and customers and bosses.
