Michael, Matthew and three dogs. WHEEE! Matthew never really woke up as we had
carried him from his bunk and laid him on the floor of the bathroom. After the
sirens stopped going off, we had them stay in the room next to us just in case
they went off again.
Last week, I lost a small fruit tree in the backyard because Matthew tried
to use it to stop himself from falling while on rollerskates. This morning,
my 10 foot oak tree was taken down by the storm. That leaves me with only
a small (4 foot) peach tree in the backyard. I have to start all over again
on getting some sort of shade and interest in the backyard.
We did get lucky though. I see one small shingle on the edge that looks like
it has a loose corner. On his way to work, Scott called and told me that the
main street near us, every house he could see was missing shingles, sometimes
in large patches. Our neighbor behind us had his fence taken down by the storm.
He had wooden poles, where we have metal. That's probably the only thing
that saved us. Too bad though - a $2500 deductible still would have been
better than the $5500 we're going to have to spend to replace the fence
I can't recall having a year here in the Dallas area that was so intense
with storms. We've had quite a few shelter runs so far this year. I hope
there aren't many more.
The main point - we came out alright and everyone is fine. :)
