Room musings

Tonight, the boys and I walked around IKEA with their new room measurements, trying to find shelves that would work on either side of the window and low storage that would go under the window. I plan to make a cusion across it so there is a window seat. I'm having trouble finding shelves because the damn window isn't in the middle of the wall! It's 25 inches on one side and 31 inches on the other.

So, what I'm thinking of doing, instead of shelves, is get them each a corner desk and the window seat. Then I can make small shelves on the wall (rather than a bookshelf) in the size that is leftover.

Here is the print of the comforter covers and pillow cases we got them:

There are small green, light blue and white dots on it. We'll get maybe a green rug and have all white furniture.

I'm thinking we can do half the room in a blue ragging, and the other half in a green ragging. I still don't know whether it would look better to do the two walls facing each other the same, or the two walls next to each other the same.

Any thoughts?

We plan on painting the bunk beds white to match the other furniture I'm looking at.

Here is the shelf unit that can be a bench when put on its side. I'm going to get blue and green baskets to go in the openings:

I'm looking at maybe one of these desks, because most 'corner' desks would be too wide for the 25 inch corner:

I can't wait to start on this next project, especially since it means a bigger room for the boys, a playroom right next to them so we don't have all of these toys downstairs, and I get to redo the room down here for my office. Yay.

The good thing is that I've given myself a LONG time to finish - I've just promised them that they will be in their new room 'before they turn 7' - which is next April *laugh*

I love the window seat idea! I might just do that for the kids' room!

Nick has an actual window seat, in the form of a 36"w x 15" deep windowsill...I keep meaning to make a cushion of some sort for it...you've inspired me. :)
