Ok, what a noxious smell! We were washing the dishes in the dishwasher, and most of the kids' plates are plastic. One of the plates had slipped off and fallen onto the heating element at the bottom. We didn't realize, as we were back showering the kids. When we came back out into the living area it was filled with the most god-awful smelling smoke. Took a while to figure out where it was coming from.

Thankfully, it is REALLY nice outside right now. Maybe high 70s. We had to open all of the windows and run fans. Ick.

When things had cooled off, I took the plate out. It was in two distinct pieces - with about a one inch strip missing from the middle. I'm hoping I can clean it off the element completely so that it doesn't smell like that every time I run the dishwasher!

We're off to take the kids to Jason's Deli to eat, then to Home Depot to get some replacement landscape lighting.
