Talk with my boss

The talk with my boss this morning went better than expected. I didn't go into a lot of detail, other than what the surgery was and that it was recommended by three independent doctors. I also followed up in email with the gist of our conversation.

I said that I had planned the surgery for January so I was able to complete my October and January launches, but that until then I may have doctors appointments and days that I'm just not mentally up to par. He was very understanding, and said it was probably because he is a Brit (based just outside of London) that he doesn't expect me to be some sort of robot like he has seen some American bosses expect. Yes, Brits get more time for vacation, illness, and major life events versus Americans. Anyway, he says I have his full support, and if I need to bow out of any meetings or calls because I just can't deal at the moment, to quickly excuse myself and that is fine. If anyone gives me any grief about anything, to let him know and, without letting them know details, he will explain that there is a medical issue that he is fully aware of. Hopefully, I won't run into that situation.

I was very pleased that he was immediately so understanding. He even brought up issues I didn't want to, such as saying he would expect there would be an 'adjustment' period because of hormone issues, etc. as I returned to work and he would also back me (without giving details) if that causes any problems.

If I haven't said it lately, I really do love where I work. I love what I do, although we have more than our fair share of stupidity and politics, I like most of the people I work with, and I love the flexibility of the role I am in.

WHEW!!! I can't tell you how relieved I am for you. I am so glad (1) that you addressed this major issue with your work and (2) that it went so well.

Your boss sounds like an amazing guy!! You couldn't have asked for a better response. I know this lifts a little bit of the burden off of your shoulders.

*deep breath of relief*

BTW, depending on what's going on in our lives come January, I might very well be able to come out and assist. I would love nothing more than to come out to take care of you, and help Scott with the boys.

We'll talk more as the time gets closer, but I'm already looking at airfares . . . (If you think you can tolerate me!)

I can always tolerate you. I just hate the idea of you coming to visit when I would be in such a funk. *laugh*

Payback is hell, isn't it?

You were here on a few days that I was scraping the bottom. Why not return the favor? lol

Eh, you weren't that bad :)

Maybe we'll plan something for when Scott needs a break and I'm a little more mobile. Something where we can at least go sit out in the backyard and talk, maybe go a few places although I wouldn't be up to huge outings.
