Home again!

It's a miracle. I'm home. It took some stubbornness and a lot of 'no, I'm going home tonight.' declarations.

Thursday evening, I noticed that a large amount of swelling was happening under my left armpit. It's like Lumpy (the left breast, as opposed to Flattie, the right breast) had a twin growing under my arm. It got really sore, and I kept pushing with all of the staff that it be looked at. It kept getting bigger and sorer until someone DID get me the fellow that works under my plastic surgeon, and he got the plastic surgeon.

Today (Friday), about 10 am, we did an ultrasound (with the surgeon actually THERE!). I had a softball sized hematoma, mostly blood and fluid, but some tissue, which would need to be removed. Wait! You mean ANOTHER procedure under sedation????? Yes, folks! At 3 pm, I was taken BACK into an OR to have it removed, stitched up, and two additional drains put in.

I was really sleepy when I got back to the room, so I slept a couple of hours. Then I got up, peed, ate some dinner, and started ringing for the nurse to bring me oral pain meds and take my pic line out. The doctor came to discuss discharge info, they got everything ready on their side, we got packed up and along came the guy with the wheelchair.

It feels good to be home, and have gentle hugs and kisses from the boys. The couch is proving to be not so easy because it isn't as supportive, or as changeable, as the hospital bed. Hard to get off of as it is so soft. Not as soft as our bed, but still a challenge. I'm glad I have strong legs.

Two days until Christmas, and I DID IT! I'm home.

Now to try to make the couch comfortable in a more sitting position so maybe it will be easier to get up.

BTW - I feel like I have a ring of satellites - small, swishing, swirling bulbs of plastic that move when I do and are arranged in a neat path along half of my midsection (only my back is clear).

Nurse? Anyone?

Being home isn't quite as HANDY as being at the hospital. I went to the restroom and had a small leaking issue from a drain. I got myself cleaned up, then realized all of my bags were still out in Scott's car. I also saw there was no toilet paper in this bathroom. I had to go into our room, past the snoring sleeping beast, grab some TP, get myself the rest of the way cleaned up, get gauze ready to be packed around the drains....then realized that I didn't have any fresh underwear or lounge pants out here. They were all in our dark bedroom. I felt around for a few pair and hoped one would at least be large and soft. I stumbled on one pair of pants.

I'm back on the couch, but all I can do is read or use Scott's computer.

Tomorrow, when everyone is more awake, I have GOT to get this place a bit better set up for self-maintenance in the evenings so I don't have to wake the house.

I do miss that nurse call button, or the ability to just turn on all of the lights and go digging around for things. Of course, the hospital didn't have my two sweet puppies sleeping soundly next to me. :)

Say it ain't so

Scott went to run errands and go to the grocery store today. He never made it to the grocery store because he actually was there when a store got 6 Playstation 3s, so he bought one. He's working on it right now. There goes out house for the weekend. Might as well not have Christmas.

Sad thing is that I bought a stand-alone Dance-Dance-Revolution 'like' game for the kids and myself, because we didn't have a playstation for the real DDR. Now, we do. I've just already bought this other game. I wonder if I can find the receipt in there to return it and put that towards the real game.

I'm still sore as can be, especially under my arm where they did that last procedure. I'm paranoid about infections, because of all that happened to me in the hospital and the fact that Amy is back in the hospital with infections in most of her incisions. We had parallel surgeries at one time, and were 2 rooms from one another. She got released on Tuesday, me on Friday, and I found that she was readmitted last night.

We thought that we could remove the gauze and bandage over where they removed my pic line. It started oozing a bit, but only like a reddish tinged fluid. Similar to what is draining from all of my other surgical sites. It was enough that I freaked and Scott put on new gauze and taped it down :)

now, I must go sleep.
