Matthew update

It appears that Matthew is on the mend, but we have started working to find out WHY he is always sick. When we went to the doctor today...

At what point does God say 'Ha! Just joking!'? I hear a scream, run back there and Matthew is bleeding. It's all over his hands, his face, his clothes and the floor. Michael was saying 'Sorry, sorry, sorry', yet claims he had NOTHING to do with it. SOMEHOW, Matthew's nose connected with a game they have. I just finished packing his nose and putting ice on it and he's fallen asleep. Back to my update *laugh*

Anyway, we went to the doctor today to get release for him to possibly go back to school tomorrow. He hasn't had a fever since early Wednesday morning, hasn't thrown up since Tuesday night and seemed to be rehydrated and feeling good. While he is doing better, we discussed that this was his third infection in just over two months and why that might be happening. We looked back at his history and realized he has almost constant ear infections unless there are tubes in his ears, he had a sinus infection for almost a YEAR before they did surgeries for that, he's had pnuemonia, he has excema, they always seem to think he has allergies or other assorted issues, and he gets every virus that goes around. When he got some blood testing done before one of his surgeries (He's had FIVE), they found that he never produced antibodies after several of his immunizations.

So, I got referred to an immunologist (or whatever they are) and SHOCKER he could get me in the same day. We spent a good 3 hours in their office going over his history, looking him over and coming up with a plan. He took three vials of blood, which will get tested for all kinds of antibodies and immunity factors. He then gave him a PPV vaccine since he was showing NO immunity to the pnuemococcal varieties. He should have been born with some, and then got more when he got the Prevnar vaccine. In four weeks, we'll go through all this testing again and see if his body reacted at ALL, or maybe if he get some after the shot but they quickly faded from his system somehow. We'll also do a full panel of allergy testing to supplement the small one his ENT had done.

I do hope they find something that could be causing him to get sick so often. I think it makes Matthew think of himself as the 'sick one' when he sees his brother never getting sick and he knows that he has a full panel of doctors. It would be great for him to only get the normal sniffles and scrapes a regular 3 going on 4 year old gets.

I have some happy stuff, but I want to give it some distance from my dumping events and my feelings about them, so it will be another post later.

Now, for the happy

  • Sometimes, I want to crawl into bed with the kids and just snuggle them all night. They are so sweet and I love them so much. We tend to focus on the negative - what they have done wrong or what is wrong with them - that we miss the every day joys. I want to recognize the good to get past the bad.

  • A doctor today told me something I haven't heard anyone say in a while - "God, you look just like Meryl Streep". Umm, I know he MEANT it to maybe be a compliment, but I don't think she is at ALL attractive. Yes, I have heard people say that I look like her at times. Doesn't mean I like that fact. But, I know he was attempting to say something nice, so I look at the intent and feel good about it.

  • My husband comes home tomorrow after 2 weeks away. I have missed him SOOOO much and I can't wait to see him. I know that he will make me feel better, hold me, and even watch the kids for a while to give me a chance at some 'me time'.

  • I slept SOOO good last night after not sleeping for two days. It was a wonderful feeling!!!!

  • Another wonderful feeling: As I had also not SHOWERED in two days, I got up early to shower this morning. Nothing makes you feel energized and CLEAN better than having gone a while without it.

  • Finally, tomorrow is my jewelry party. I wish it was a party for MY jewelry, but it's actually for Premier. I'll get a cool tennis bracelet for hosting, get $25 in free jewelry and a portion of the sales in free jewelry. That's actually not what I'm looking forward to. Scott will be home and has said he will deal with the kids. I will have a night to drink and unwind with friends. Not as many friends as I would like, but the ones that will be there mean a lot to me. I invited about 15 people, and several will be out of town. Only 5 RSVP'd, and several haven't even replied one way or the other. I have lots of snacks and drinks, plates, cups, and the house is pretty clean. I don't care if only one person shows up (although I'm sure the jewelry rep does!), I plan to relax and have a great time.
