Happy Birthday to John!

Well, it isn't TOTALLY pictures from John's birthday party on Saturday, but that is the majority. John and Janet live a few blocks from us, and we went over Saturday afternoon to celebrate his 40th. The boys went out and played ping pong in the garage, drinking plenty of beer. The girls hung out listening to music and drank lots of wine. I mean LOTS. Our friends Shannon and Brian were in from Germany after being gone for over a year. Shannon and
I were drinking Riesling while talking, and realized the whole bottle was gone. When we complained about it being the only bottle, we ended up with FOUR MORE. We didn't drink all of that (although we gave it the old college try). Later, everyone that felt up to it went out to the hot tub. YAY for impromptu parties!

Pictures are here, but unfiled

And people say kids are work. If you teach them young enough, they can take over even the worst of tasks :)

Case in point

The other day, Michael had his first REAL toddler tantrum. He even told me that he was going to run away from home *laugh* I sent him to his room and when I checked back a half hour later, he was asleep. But not before doing massive damage.

I am SOOOO looking forward to this next week. Sun has mandatory shut-down the week of July 4. So, as of Friday afternoon I have 9 straight days of no work. With the exception of weekends and Monday, the kids will be in summer camp during the day. I will have nothing to do next week except school work. NOTHING! I can do gardening. I can read. I can SLEEP. This will truly be joyous.

Tuesday, on the other hand, was not a good day. My boss called to say his three-year-old, who has luekemia, was back in the hospital with an infection. I felt like I was coming down with a cold. I took Matthew to the doctor, and he had CT scans done of his head, and it turns out that he has 100% occlusion due to infection in four of his six sinus cavities, 75% in the fifth and 50% in the sixth. We're in serious antibiotics for three or four weeks. Did I also mention it was raining for the 18th day STRAIGHT? Finally, as if matters weren't bad enough, the vet called to say my cat was in renal failure again. We now have to give her IV fluids once a day for a week, then twice a week for 2 weeks and retest her levels.

We started fluids today at home on Sydney (the cat) and it went remarkablly well. She stayed still, and I got the needle in with no problems. I'm hoping it goes ok with little stress.

The one thing keeping me going is that my friend Mike, his wife, myself and MAYBE a couple of others (poke-poke, Gene-Bob) are going to see They Might Be Giants in mid-July in downtown Dallas. I LOVE THEM LIVE!!!!! I can't wait.

Third time's the charm

I feel compelled to write about my couch. See, I LOVE my couch
and love seat. I got them for our first anniversary from my husband. (I ASKED for them. He didn't just think "WOW! Nothing says I'm glad I married you like furniture!"). Being the young, married yuppie couple with no kids that we were, we went out and found this beautiful overstuffed white couch and loveseat set. Yes, I said WHITE. That was about nine years ago.

Over four years ago, we got two puppies. The furniture survived.

Over three years ago, we got two sons. The furniture got dark blue slipcovers. I even sewed covers for the pillows that matched the slipcovers. Call me Martha Howard, only with less money to invest.

The kids are a bit more responsible now - at least they don't have uncontrollable vomiting that often (goodBYE reflux!). When I went to take the covers off to wash them this last time, I realized there were still spills happening, we just weren't able to tell at the time they occured so they just SAT there a while. I made the decision to rip off the slipcovers and pillowcovers and go back to my wonderful white couch.

It's so much more comfortable this way. It doesn't look THAT bad. But I have to pay someone to come clean it. Let me explain...I can remove the cushion covers and wash them in the machine. They come back out nice and white. The rest of the couch can't be cleaned so easily. It's sort of an.....OFF white. We now have REALLY bright white cushions on a, basically, yellow couch.

God help me Dalworth. You will be seeing me soon.
