Because I wasn't stressed enough

I think I'm about to throw up.

My company just announced that by early August they will be laying off about 5000 people. This is the thing that scares the absolute SHIT out of me. I don't know how I would handle if I was laid off.

Oh, and today, Michael somehow deleted a large amount of information off of my new cell phone. I hope I can get it back and that it is saved on my computer.

Excuse me while I go self-medicate. AUGUST??? I have to spend months wondering whether I have a job or not? Whether the brand new group I was moved into realizes my value and work ethic? Dear God, I've only talked to my current manager ONCE.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just look at the glowing praise you received in your last review! And you have a consistent history of good reviews. You're a tremendous asset to the company.

Plus, you've been there a long time and you don't cost the company a lot of overhead. I would hardly expect your job to be eliminated if they're trimming the fat.

I remember getting laid off from Cisco, not fun. How many employees does Sun have these days?

I know its really stressful, you just had a great review though. Are you really expendable?

We've got about 35,000 right now. I've survived seven layoffs, so here's hoping to make it eight.

I don't see my job as expendable, and I know there are plenty of others that don't as well. However, I have seen in the past where the executives make the cuts without enough information or insight into the true value of the position, assumed it was an expendable position and laid off the person. We've felt the pain of it many times.

Thankfully, since I just got a new boss (which is why I'm so nervous this time - he doesn't know me or my work) I JUST sent him my last review, my interim review, and a leveling doc my previous manager and I put together for my promotion. It lists all of the projects I have led, my different accomplishments throughout the years, etc. I hope they use that document to help them decide :)

Good luck to you. I just went through the same thing. We were told back in November of last year that there would be lay offs in April. I'm one of the ones to go. Our positions don't actually end till July 7th. Thanks goodness for Joe or I wouldn't know what to do.
