I have come to love my backyard, and feel it is finally coming together as a 'real' place to be.
Exactly one year ago this week, we had our annual crawfish boil. While outside, I took some pictures of my garden, since I had just planted some new plants. Just look at this - take special note of the delphenium planted in the back. That's a sunflower between them in the pic.
Here is my honeysuckle bush (which seriously needs transplanting), surrounding by some wildflowers.
Now - fast forward one year
I can't BELIEVE how much delphenium can grow in one year!!!! The lavender on each end of the garden is Catmint, one of my favorite plants. It comes back year after year (this is its 6th year), blooms in the spring and then again at the end of summer / early fall, and spreads great. The delphenium has grown so fast it covers the plants in the front two rows.
The honeysuckle has grown up until it interferes with the wind chimes. I bitch all of the time about the slope of our yard. I think this shows the overall slope very well. The chimes hang straight down, and the top of the fence is level. Look at the slant of the arbor. Now, imagine that as you approach the fence, it only gets even sharper. Grrr.
Here is my pitiful little Ash tree I planted this year.
Finally, my little white fence I put up to give the boys (and us) a dog-free zone, and therefore a poop-free zone, in which to play. Now, I just need to get some replacement cushions for the chairs.
