Weekend Update

Yesterday afternoon, we took the boys out to the pumpkin patch to choose their carving pumpkins. Michael chose one that was really TALL and skinny, and says he wants a bat on it. He is going to be Batman, after all. Matthew got one that was a bit rounder, but still tall. He wants either a spider (he's Spiderman this year) or a cat (his favorite. Too bad he's allergic). We lucked out with this pumpkin patch, because they charge you according to the size at the top, regardless of how big it is at the bottom or how tall. So our pumpkins were only $6 and $7.

Then last night, we had to drive out to KELLER (about 45 minutes to an hour away) for a housewarming party for some of Scott's gaming friends. It was a nice party, but the drive sucked big time. At least I got to listen to a bunch of musin on my iPod and sing along! We had a few margaritas, talked out on the patio, did the tour of the house, and listened to all of the dreams for improvements they will make that if they are like most homeowners will find themselves sorely lacking in time and money to complete. It's great to dream, though :) Of course, they seem a LOT handier than we are. They replaced their own fence - just got a couple of friends and banged it out one weekend. Wish we could do that. Ours needs replacing.

They had a GREAT backyard. I would kill for it. It's FLAT for starters, and about 2-3 times the size of our backyard. There was a nice patio and wood deck out there, but they took down the trellis that was overtaken in vines. The previous owners must have had an aboveground pool, with a rocky waterfall and pond area next to it. So, there just looked like there was this huge terrascape thing in the middle of the backyard. Jeff did lots of work to take all o f the rocks out to create edging for their gardens, filled in the pond with dirt, and planted some new bushes. Looks great now.

Highlight of the evening? A bunch of drunk geeks trying to shoot a milk jug with a BB gun.

This morning I took a lot more time with the boys than I usually do - I made them banana pancakes, with syrup and sprinkles. Quite the hit!

Today will probably be a bunch of sitting around, playing with the kids and doing not much of anything. Maybe even watch Batman vs. Dracula.

Just thought about what you cuold do for the backyard to flatten it.
No, it's not free :-)

Take down the fence since it needs replacing anyway, build
a retaining wall along the alley and part of the sides, fill
in the slope, and put up a new fence. Voila! Flat yard (well, with
a little slope to the alley still so it doesn't turn into a lake
when it rains), new fence. Might be worth it to check into what
a project like that would cost.
