More Slidell info

I finally got through to my brother-in-law this afternoon on the phone. They are just outside of Tuscaloosa, AL, and got kicked out of their hotel because they have a dog with them. They are looking for a new hotel. I told/pleaded with him to come here to Dallas. He says his company might be moving to Houston as a base, and I used that as a selling point (you'll be closer to Houston, and you won't have to worry about what happens to Dad because he'll already be here living with us!!!). He has the number, and said they would think about it and give us a call. I don't know what there is to think about because they can't afford to stay in hotels for the next two months.

Anyway, more pictures and information about Slidell are starting to come out today. I found this image:

Since I could clearly see the street sign, I thought I would mapquest from that intersection to my father-in-law's house.

.6 miles. 2 minutes. About five blocks.

Good to see the water has RECEEDED!

There was a photo caption in today's DMN which mentioned Slidell. It said something like "85% of the homes are either damaged or destroyed".

what's sad.... is that it's low tide. High tide is coming in a few short hours.

Yes, that should make things even worse just off the 17th canal and in the 9th ward in New Orleans. My HOPE is that the flooding due to high tide will only happen in the New Oreans direction. (My WISH is that it wouldn't happen at all, but you can't stop the tides, so I'm just hoping for a best of the worst situation) Slidell is considered part of 'NorthShore', meaning the north shore of the lake. New Orleans is on the south of it. I hope the levees on the north shore are still intact. I haven't heard anything different, so that's my happy place and I'm sticking to it!

Talking to the family made me feel better, but we'll probably call them again tonight on the pretense of making sure they found another hotel, and pester them again to come live here.

I married into a very STUBBORN family. My father-in-law was absolutely going to stay in his house, by himself, and ride it out. Would have if Christian hadn't flat out dragged him out. Christian was going to ride it out, and only left to get his dad because his mom was crying and wouldn't leave him alone until he did.

Thank God for the strong, bitchy women these guys marry *laugh*
