Wow.

Ok, question that maybe afromonkey might be able to answer buried in here.

Went out with 'the girls' tonight - Colleen, Angela and Kim - and we hit our usual haunt, the Down Under Pub because they have live music on Thursday nights. There was a REALLY good band there tonight. EXTREMELY versatile. They sang Violent Femmes, Kid Rock, Blink 182, AC/DC, just about anything you could think of. From Hip-Hop to pop to alternative to classic rock. We were all floored.

Anyway, every summer, Kim and Angela throw a large Luau-themed party combining several birthday parties and have live music. The band that has played the last couple of years is acoustic and only costs a few hundred dollars. This band would obviously be more, but we are willing to pay, perhaps even doing a raffle to help us recoup costs. We figured as good as this band was, they must be playing pretty regularly, right?

Wrong.

We went to their web site and they have ONE gig booked - the one we just left. Now, the web site looks sparse, but one of the band members we were able to talk to quickly told us to use the web site to contact them about playing the party.

I have no clue how much is a reasonable amount to pay these guys! Any clues?

God save us from another Jimmy Buffet cover for this party.

If they only have one show, it doesn't sound like they are well established, and they might be looking for some exposure. I'd offer them the same amount that you offered the acoustic band and if they accept then gravy. Regardless of how much is guaranteed you should try to add a little more on top of that when they are actually paid. We like that, makes us want to play a party again.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a good plan.

$200 was the usual fee for my band when we played in a club. A private party might be a little less. It also depends on how many members are in the band. $35 - $50 each was what we worked for. If you have a keg or open bar and allow them to drink, they should take a little less.

On a completely different matter, I'd like to have you make another set for me. Something silver . . . :))

Absolutely. I'll brainstorm a little bit this week and see what I can come up with. I'll do the usual mock-up designs with digital photos.

I'd like the necklace to be shorter, with something dangly . . .
