Grrrrrrr

If I filled out a form saying that my kids can NOT get any snacks on their school lunch account and ONLY get snacks when I send cash with them for it - do I then log into the online lunch system to find out one son, who shall remain nameless *coughmatthewcough* has been getting Blue Bell ice cream at least three times a week on his account??????????

I said no snacks for a reason. They get enough snacks and sweets in their life to spend their lunch money on them. We give snacks like ice cream as a reward. They get it when they pass a belt exam in Tae Kwon Do. When we have a special holiday, we might have ice cream or sweets. When we go on vacation, they might get candy.

I try to teach my kids some restraint and that sweets are perfectly fine in moderation. I think 5 is a little young for them to be given free reign with unlimited funds for ice cream every day.

Time to talk to the teacher. Also time to talk to Matthew again. Michael, I noticed, only got ice cream once in the last month.

(As an aside, if one of my kids was going to eat junk like this, I would prefer it to be Matthew, actually. He lost 10 pounds with the initial ADHD medication they gave him, and he is still a good 7 pounds lighter than his brother because of it. He needs to gain weight, but not this way. He needs protein. Carbs even. Not just sugar.)

It's handled through the teacher in your school system? In C-FB I just had to ask the cafeteria manager to note "no a la carte items" on Laurel's account.

No, I had to send in a signed sheet for each child that went to the cafeteria . However, they don't seem to pay much mind to it for some reason.

Call the school and ask to leave a voicemail for the cafeteria manager.

I'd be giving my school's cafeteria manager guff if they didn't honor that on Laurel's account because I prepay by the semester.

Oh, I'm so so sorry, but I must confess that when I read this, I laughed out loud!!!

This happens at my daughter's school, ALL THE TIME!!! Her teacher is awesome, though. She sent home a note last month tattling on all of her students (we can't access what they've bought with their lunch money). She said that too much money was being wasted on "junk" and that actual lunches were being thrown away to eat said junk, creating even more waste! She told us that she will only allow her students to purchase "extras" on Fridays even if parents have signed for their children to have free-spending reign or not! She rocks.

Oh, and War Eagle yet again. Check out my latest post. Too funny.

I've told the kids that on special days I will SEND money with them so they can buy a treat.

Good teacher. (:

Most of the teachers at my daughter's school put in the beginning of year paperwork sent home that you can opt out of the kids being able to buy a la carte items with their account. Just to be on the safe side, I put a bilingual call-out box in our latest school newsletter reminding parents how to use that option. I am entirely too aware of how much the kids spend on snacks because the Cub Scouts tend to forget that I can hear what they're saying. (:
