Shrink me

I'm actually going to start therapy in the morning. I finally got off my ass and called my Employee Assistance Program. They referred both a psychologist and a psychiatrist, but I'm starting with the psychologist. They'll see you quicker :) Anyway, 8 visits are free, then just a $10 copay after that. If they can do something to lessen my stress, lengthen my short fuse, make me stop boiling over inside over the slightest things, and feel some joy again in life, it will be worth it. If they can lessen the stress, which lessens the cortisol, which allows my body to absorb and create more progesterone, we'll have a winner.

I can't tell you how happy I am for you. The important thing is to find someone that you're comfortable with.

I never really believed in that whole head shrinking mumbo jumbo bullshit until I found someone to talk to that I actually respected. I hope you have found a good match for you.

It sounds silly, but reading this post has made my day. I am so relieved that you might start feeling better.

Also, what are the asking of someone when they say, "The History of Sociology"

What are they looking for? Me to know every single human being related to the history and philosophy of sociology and all their works?

I just did a search for 'CLEP Sociology' on amazon.com. Here is the link to the book. It's all I used:

CLEP Sociology Study Guide


When they mean history of sociology, they mean who did the main theories, and when. So you know the big names, what their pet theories are, and in what order they went. The book covers it all, in simple paragraphs for each of them.

It's interesting that you are seeing a "shrink".
I find myself from time to time having a short temper, yet I do my best to not let it get to me.

One has to understand that it is just normal for the majority of mankind to be simple minded.

The best thing to do whenever you get angry is raise an eyebrow, think about what's going on around you, and just wait.

Getting angry does very little because hate leads to more hate and stress for someone else, when people are under stress they make more mistakes.
It only creates a cycle where someone will become stressed out again.

Understanding what is happening around you and taking time to think about it will help you overcome the next mistake, and allow you to be aware of how you may be able to prevent it next time.

Sometimes if people are so simple that their mistakes can't be avoided, then it is up to the protagonist themselves to alter the state of mind of the antagonist. Doing so will increase the chances that they will do things as you request and perhaps cause less stress for them and you.

I like to see things in a simple matter.
It's not my fault. It's not your fault.
You didn't ask, I didn't tell.
It's our fault, and societies fault.

It only becomes your fault when you become so powerful that you can't handle the wisdom and knowledge you have obtained over the years and neglect something.

I try not to neglect things, however, when I do I usually get screwed, because selfish desires usually lead to self destruction.

There is a bit of a history here, and I do know plenty of cognitive therapies to help with control of stressful situations or high anxiety in a situation. I have a hormonal imbalance, which we are trying to treat through supplementation. The swings with the hormones take me by surprise, and is more of a SNAP change in the mood than any natural progression. I don't have anger, but more of going from happy to frustrated to sad to happy within moments, with no warning. What I am seeing as 'temper' is relative to me. It's not anger, but more impatience with the world in general.

The purpose of the therapy is twofold, and not necessarily for me to help stop something, when it is medically caused and without warning:

- Learn to cope with the aftereffects, and lessen the damage from when it does occur (for instance, how to explain to a four year old why mommy was playing happily or making dinner, then suddenly yelled at them, then was back to normal)

- Approaching the hormone imbalance from the other direction. I have next to no progesterone, which makes me 'estrogen dominant' and causes many of the things I'm experiencing. We are trying to get the balance of hormones back into place with supplements. The normal stress in my life (unavoidable), even though I have good coping skills with the effects of the stress, still produces cortisol. One of the side effects of cortisol is a lowering of progesterone production. We will be looking at medical therapies to address cortisol production, so my body has the opportunity to pick back up on progesterone production.
